If you have received an offer and it sounds too good to be true, that's because it probably is. There are numerous job scams run by crooks in Nigeria. Usually you'll get offered a job without a face-to-face interview. But then you're always asked to wire cash by Western Union wire transfer, for visa fees, airline tickets, insurance, courier fees, etc. Doesn't matter what excuse they give you, *don't do it*.

Wiring money upfront to a stranger in Nigeria is a sure way to get scammed. Western Union and the Internet don't mix. Never use WU to send money to anyone you don't know personally. What is the day rate salary for a Marine/Riser inspector from Malaysia working in oil project in Nigeria?

What are the question? If they ask for personal information, such as birth date, bank account numbers, especially social securtiy number, it pretty much guaranteed to be a scam. Who contacted who first. Did you reply to an ad to work for them or did they just contact you out of the blue? If they contacted you first it's guaranteed to be a scam. They could want money from you to process the paper work or something. Even if you don't pay them, they use your identity to pull some other scam. how are they helping the local

    and how are they not

thank need some strong solid well proven point.

dont know wher to start.Roles corparations play in Nigeria Delta region on Oil conflict?
The Nigeria Delta region is flush with oil and corporations are lining up to purchase

it. The government owns all the oil rights and has a major interest in every oil company operating there.

Although the government is making billions with oil near record prices, the profits are slow in trickling down to the average citizen (especially villagers), thus moving some of them to protest in order to get their share. some rebels feel resentment against oil companies because the government uses oil profits paid by corporations to fund the military which is cracking down on the rebels.Roles corparations play in Nigeria Delta region on Oil conflict?
I can see that you have assignment problems..

Start from one end - pros or the cons

it is interesting to note that a state like bayelsa is not connected to the national electrical grid. It is the oil comps that suply them with light. Most of the infrastructure they have were given by them. They also give the ppl employment directly and indirectly....

Their actvities have polluted the land and kept a number of ppl jobless.

The pay is HIGH , because of these factors.

  • Will Nigeria become an oil country in the 10 coming years?

The activities of large oil corporations such as Mobil, Chevron, Shell, Elf, Agip etc have raised many concerns and criticisms. Oil, which could potentially have allowed Nigeria to be one of the wealthiest countries in Africa has instead led it to become one of the poorest.

A series of repressive and corrupt governments in Nigeria have been supported and maintained by western governments and oil corporations, keen on benefitting from the fossil fuels that can be exploited. As people and transnational oil corporations have been fighting over this “dark nectar” in the delta region, immense poverty and environmental destruction have resulted.

The Ogoni, Ijaw and other people in the Niger Delta, those who have been worse affected for decades have been trying to stand up for themselves, their environment and their basic human and economic rights. The Nigerian government and the oil companies have responded by harshly cracking down on protestors. Shell, for example, has even been criticized for trying to divide communities by paying off some members to disrupt non-violent protests

They will send me my plane ticket via courier including a Hard Copy of the Offer Letter and Certificate of Employment.

They told me that my starting day is on the 6th of April but I have to be in Nigeria a week before for the orientation. This is just to pressure me.

I have coodinated with Travel Afrik Limited, asking them what documents they need to process my visa and they gave me a list.

    1) Sao Tome %26amp; Principe Visa Application Form. (to be filled-up).

    2) Sao Tome Terrorist Clearance Application Form (to be fiiled-up).

    3) Scanned copy of my passport.

Does Oil companies in Nigeria pay compensation to Niger Delta Communities?

Oil companies provide a great many jobs, and they are some of the best paying jobs in the country. The government gets humongous amounts of money from selling their oil. Now, the companies provide the best jobs around, pay huge amounts of taxes, and the govt makes billions on the oil. Why should a company pay ';compensation'; instead of the govt doing its job?

Look for Nigeria under production figures, find the table with oil prices on (just use any of them, they're fairly correlated so it doesn't matter too much), multiply price by production for each year, and sum over the ten years.

Note production is barrels per day, so obviously multiply by 365 to get per year.

How is the instability in nigeria related to its oil wealth and corruption within its government?

So far i have 2 reasons:

    1. Government sides with oil companies for short term profits

    2. Pollution/Human Rights Abuses/Violence

Wat is another one? I need to make this a 5 page paper. And its due tomorrow...

How is the instability in Nigeria related to its oil wealth and corruption within its government?

Only the corrupt government and the oil producers of nigeria are profiting, correct? What does that have to do with the instability?

Also, do you have any sites that can give me more infor on this topic? How is the instability in Nigeria related to its oil wealth and corruption within its government?
It's a very common story in Africa and the mid east. It's about sacrificing long term prosperity for short term gains. Enriching the few at the expense of the many. Lets take Iraq for example (early Hussein years). You would think with such an abundant natural resource it would be a wealth country correct? But it is not. Because instead of the Iraqi government mining it's oil through Iraqi companies, selling it on the global market place, and using the revenue to invest in infrastructure, education, and social services, Hussein chose to, or was ordered to contract the mining of their oil to American companies. They buy the rights to the land and the oil at a fraction of what the all the oil is actually worth. They employ Iraqis but pay them slave wages. And instead of returning the income to the community from which it came, the profits are shipped back to US, meaning we everyday Americans enjoy the oil and our companies enjoy the profits. And what does Iraq get? Well Hussein gets to keep the money he made from auctioning off his oil fields, and since he's the only one in the country making money off the resources, he gets to remain his power. Short term goals are satisfied.

Similar kinds of thing have been going on in Africa for decades. In nigeria's case it's more than just oil but gemstones, rubber, and precious metals. All of which are owned by American companies so the true value of those resources are never utilized by the country from which it came. Corrupt governments make deals with foreign industries, taking a lump sum of cash in exchange for the long term wealth underneath the ground.

Sorry I don't know of any websites but you can search for articles on neo-imperialism in Africa and the mid east. It should helpHow is the instability in Nigeria related to its oil wealth and corruption within its government?

What do you think Obama would do?Attacks on Japan oil tanker and Nigeria from the mideast causes the price of oil to go over 117.00 a barrel?
Yes, I agree with you. As far as Obama goes, I don't think he would know what to do.Attacks on Japan oil tanker and Nigeria from the mideast causes the price of oil to go over 117.00 a barrel?
I don't think any of the candidates can do anything about these tanker attacks. Look for more of these in the future. It was written just yesterday I believe that Iran said the oil prices were way too low. Think Iran is behind this, you bet your bottom dollar they are.
Obama is the savior he will Hope all problems away.

All he needs to do is talk, and every problem will magically disappear
Dude even if a flea farted in a remote jungle of Borneo it would be reason enough for Bush's buddies to raise the price of oil.
Obama would give a fluffy speech about hope and change.
if you look at a tanker the wrong way the price goes up one dollar

    welcome to bush-enomics
Obama will do what needs to be done!
No. It's obvious that neither of them is doing anything to solve the problem now.

I don't need to read the article to know what it's about. At any rate, all of the 'bad stuff' contained in it is purely speculation. Connect a few dots and propose the answer. Why te\he thumbs down Rove? Dont like the truth as I suspected

What fuels your car? Exactly how much blood must be mixed with oil in order to fuel a combustion engine? The issue is not the oil itself, it is that greedy american corporations would rather kill than compete for that oil in the global market place since that would cut into their profit margin.

The issue is that greedy american corporations would rather pay one dictator to use brutality in silencing the masses while their resources are being stolen than to have to provide enough money for those resources that the people living in those nations involved might actually be lifted out of poverty and become educated and decide to harvest their own natural resources.

The issue in not what fuels americas cars...the issue is what fuels america's greedy corporate monster.....

9 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
Guess people like White Feather and pfo just don't understand the political aspects of the global oil industry.

Regardless of how many people suffer and die, politicians like Rice, Cheyney and other neocons will continue to strive for political goals that meet ';American interests';.

By the way, why aren't the ';mighty'; and ';brave'; US go out to ';liberate'; Burma like they did in Iraq? Believe me, I know that the Burmese Junta is far worst than Saddam era Iraq.

Countries like China, India and Russia are to blame for what is happening in Burma. China basically runs everything in Burma to suite its needs. India purchases CNG and other raw materials from Burma. And Russia supports it for some reason.

American politicians can just masturbate about something and wait someday to *** at that thing they were masturbating about.
I love the comment when you quote far left sources.

Yes CBS, NBC, FOX they are the truth. Corporate controlled media is the truth. If you are from the far right then you speak the truth. I love the way these networks played right into Bushes hands to get us into Iraq. Yes the truth is in the far right. Antiwar.com was screaming that Bush was lying from day one. BEFORE we went into Iraq. Another one of those far left resources.

THE TRUTH IS NOT ON CORPORATE CONTROLLED MEDIA. THAT IS FOR THE LEMMINGS, THE SHEEP.

WE HAVE EXPLOITED EVERYONE IN THE WORLD FOR OUR SELF CENTERED INTERESTS. NOW WE HAVE BLOWBACK. THE CHICKENS HAVE COME HOME TO ROOST.
Modern industrial civilizations requre oil. We are utterly dependent upon it. Without it they will collapse and their citizens will starve and die.

Oil companies exist because they can obtain and market gasoline and other oil products effectively. Western civilization could not exist without oil companies.

Unfortunately, most oil seems to be found under land owned by nations we find disagreeable. Disagreeable or not we have to deal with them, and dealing is easier if the regime in power is capable of providing stability. Without it oil workers are held hostage or killed. Again, oil companies like STABILITY. How that is achieved is not that important. It is sad that many people live under tyranny, but our survival as a civilization is at stake. Every other consideration is secondary.
They like any Government who will not collect a fair value for the Oil so that the people of that country have funds to help them live after their Natural Resource is taken, stolen or destroyed.

They love corrupt government and will actually have the CIA overthrow Democratic Governements to get what they want.
And former Unocal executive Karzai is now the president of Afghanistan.

These are pretty standard examples of US foreign policy.

    Q = [0.3152 m^3/sec]*(3600 sec/hr)(24 hrs/day)

    Q = 27,233.28 m^3/day * 1gal/3.79 x 10-3 m^3

    Q = 7185.56 x 10^3 gallons

    Q = 7.2 million gallons/day

    Hope this helps.

Oil flowing with a speed of 1.22 m/s through a pipeline with a radius of 0.305m.how many gallons oil in 1 day?

This is a simple volume calculation. Volume flow rate 鈭倂/鈭倀 = pipe area * velocity = pi*0.305^2*1.22 m^3/s. Total volume = 鈭倂/鈭倀 * time in s. Answer is in m^3. Multiply by 264.172051 to get gallons. This number obtained by googling ';1 m^3 in gallons';.

and how would drilling in ANWAR change anything? We have a pipeline, so im guessing there's oil....why does Alaska have the highest gas prices?
No refineries in Alaska and the vehicles don't run on crude oil.We have a pipeline, so im guessing there's oil....why does Alaska have the highest gas prices?
Alaska doesn't have the highest prices.

This a liberal media pre-emptive strike. It's designed to make ignorant people think having more oil will not help prices.

The idea is ';everyone knows'; there's a lot of oil in Alaska. So it should follow the prices are lower there, right? But whoa wait a second they aren't. So now that we can ';prove'; more oil doesn't lower prices, there's no reason to go to ANWAR.

May sound silly, but can you us a better reason for a false story like this to be written and circulated?
a bush family member is the best answer! pick him!
It's really quite simple. Alaska (along with Hawaii) have the highest gas prices because of the expenses needed to deliver it in such out-of-the-way state.

ANWAR would change 'something' simply because supply would begin to catch up with demand.
The simple answer: The Lower 48.

(Obama supporters only, I meant to say the Lower 55.)
Drilling in ANWAR wouldn't change anything. But the reason gas is so high in Alaska is because they don't have any refining capacity there. They have to pump the crude out of the ground, ship it back to the mainland, convert it to gasoline, and then ship it back to Alaska. That's why it's so expensive there. That's why everything is so expensive there. Check out the price for a pound of cheddar cheese in Alaska.
Because the place that needs the oil the most ISN'T in Alaska but in the mainland U.S.A.
We have $4.00 a gallon here in L.A. I also saw $4.19 a gallon yesterday. Drilling in ANWAR wouldn't do a thing for us today because it will take 10 years to get the oil out and there isn't enough there to last 5 years. It's not real profitable.
Could it depend on the existence of refineries there?

I don't know if they have that capacity.

Drilling in ANWR isn't worth the destruction. We knew we needed to conserve and research alternatives as far back as the 1970's yet we sat on our hands and buried our heads in the sand.

The time for action is clearly now, yesterday actually.

How much longer can we afford to live in denial?

Imagine if doctors never did research and prescribed your parents, your kids, you, asprin for their cancer!
No refinery. The oil is shipped somewhere else to be refined and the gasoline is shipped back.

I'm guessing the shipping costs are the issue.
The highest gas prices are in California. One city is selling gas at nearly $6 a gallon.
More gasoline tax money going to Alaska

If the Iraq War is about Oil why doesn't The USA have a pipeline built yet to the USA?

Why do liberals always insist on lying to prove their point? If the Iraq War is about Oil why doesn't The USA have a pipeline built yet to the USA?
The saudi royal family gave the bush family over 1 billion dollars and the republican party over 8 billion dollars to start this war. This entire operation has been for their benefit, so that they could annex Iraq and turn it into another wahhabi kingdom. Read ';House of Bush, House of Saud'; an excellent book that explains why we are REALLY there and also why bush will NEVER allow anyone to catch or kill bin laden. If the Iraq War is about Oil why doesn't The USA have a pipeline built yet to the USA?
Because those PESKY TERRORISTS, INSURGENTS, OR EVERYDAY IRAQIS are fighting against it.

DUH...you can't figure that for yourself Saddam?
So far they can't even get running water. It will take another 100 years to get the oil flowing.
OK if gas was 97 cents a gallon than it might be obvious it was for oil...Cheney+Halliburton =Scandelous=bush administration=Public corruption+$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$= EXPENSIVE OIL........................
What people also don't seem to understand is that we get most of our oil from Canada and Mexico.
    1. ';About Oil'; doesn't mean just to take the oil from Iraq.

it means to control the oil in Iraq. , can you imagine how fragile is the world's economics. Oil can control the world.

2.The method used for such distances is ships not piplines,

    It's more economical.
My favorite diatribe to write...The Iraq War is NOT about stealing oil…about keeping oil from hitting the open market. The question you have to ask…is what is different about Saddam during the first and second US war in Iraq. Simple, not following OPEC’s demands.

In the first few lesson of a basic economics course, they cover Monopolies and Cartels. Cartels, a group of suppliers, such as OPEC, corner markets by artificially controlling and restraining the supply of any item in demand, such as oil, to drive up prices and profitability. Typically under a free market system, Cartels typically fail due to the cheating element when one member secretly cheating against the group by selling under the table. It only takes one major supplier to cheat to break the Cartel. When this discipline fails with the Cartels, the whole thing falls to the free market system where prices match a natural level of supply and demand.

With that in mind…take a look at Iraq before George W. Bush. A 10 year war with Iran and complete devastating loss to the Americans in Desert Storm has beaten Saddam down. Broke and barely hanging on to power Saddam is bribing every sympathetic UN officials during the “Food for Oil” program. He trying to get sanctions lifted so he can make it to the free market because he is desperate need of money to hang on to power. Plus he is now hates personally the King of Saudi Arabia and the Emir of Kuwait and would love to burst their OPEC bubble. If Saddam makes it to the free market with his oil, he makes a bunch of money and he hurts his rivals, the Kings of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

To preserve OPEC, The King of Saudi Arabia tells George W. Bush that Saddam must go. Bush and the Arabian Kings trumped up charges of WMDs against Saddam along with some other bad stuff, which were probably true. Americans are so mad after 9-11 they don’t care who gets their Azzes kicked. Saddam is removed to preserve the OPEC oil cartel not save us from Saddam blowing us up. No WMDs were found.

Proof is simple. After five years of Saddam’s removal, No Iraqi oil is hitting the world market. The Iraqis are buying oil from the Saudis/Kuwaitis to keep their daily lives going. Americans are paying for the rebuilding of Iraq.

Now if my theory is correct. Who LOST? Bush has spent billions getting close to a trillion of US assets to preserve OPEC. We have lost 3000 or so troops during this process. At home, the US consumers got robbed at the pump and the domestic economy had got strangled due to the high cost of energy. Who WON? All friends of Bush: OPEC Members, Texas Oil Business People, and Military Contractors.

Don’t believe me ask any college economics professor if what I’m saying is plausible. If I’m right, maybe conservatives should start questioning their country’s leadership about their motives. If this is true we all have been cheated, liberals and conservatives alike.
Years ago we had the Alaskan pipeline. Clinton drilled in his neck of the woods temporarily. I believe their wells are deeper. U can't have a pipeline across the Atlantic is is not possible nor financially a possibility. In my opinion, Iraq is location. Oil is problematic. Bad guys want nuclear energy, control of the Gulf and in Africa murdering innocents for land occupation. Oil is one factor of a whole big picture.

Are there any regulations on how many hours that a pipeliner/gas/oil rig employee is to work? Do they have a certain number of hours for rest/sleep? To my understanding, an employee is supposed to have eight hours in between shifts. My brother works on a pipeline and they aren't given them any time to sleep and when they do it's four hours at the most. They do not provide them water and will not let them go get food. They give them four hours to sleep or eat then they have to be back to work. They have to work during storms. Why is it going to take 10 years for us to get oil out of the alaska pipeline?

That is a good question. If I had to guess, I would think planning would be a large part of the time. It would be important to try and minimize the impact to the natural environment. Then there would be surveys, more planning, company bids on construction, choosing the builders, building, setting in place onsite employees, test runs, actual drilling, roads would need to be built for trucks, etc. It will be a very complicated venture that will not be hitch free.

This is a description of the Alaskan Pipeline Project from the seventies:

    ';It took approximately 70,000 workers to complete the work between 1968, when the initial planning work got started, and the end of the project in '77. According to Alyeska Pipeline Service Company, which was created to oversee the project, there were 28,072 workers at the project's peak in 1975. Many of these people lived in one of the 29 temporary construction camps. They flew in and out of 14 temporary airfields. 515 federal and 832 state permits were needed along the way. And 330 archaelogical site surveys were conducted before the building even got started. It was a massive project that provided a great many jobs to Alaskans as well as thousands of non-Alaskans.';

http://www.alyeska-pipe.com/pipelinefact鈥?/a>Why is it going to take 10 years for us to get oil out of the alaska pipeline?
Good question. I'd like to know myself. There's been no damage to the environment with the pipeline. In fact, what I hear on the news was the Elk like to huddle up to it for warmth.

    This is also interesting:

Then there鈥檚 the oil nobody is talking about. The Bakken fields beneath North Dakota, Montana, and Canada hold an estimated 400 billion barrels of oil. In comparison, Saudi Arabia鈥檚 biggest field, Gahawar, has an estimated 55 billion barrels, while ANWR has an estimated 10.4 billion barrels. Why is it going to take 10 years for us to get oil out of the alaska pipeline?
We have been drilling and pumping oil up here in Alaska since 1977. The wildlife are just fine with the pipeline. We simply do not have enough oil to satisfy the needs and wants of the USA. Gas today was $4.16 and diesel was $5.09.

Can a pipeline be designed to transport crude oil, products like petrol, diesel and gas all in one pipe? how?

I take it by the words you have selected, you are asking if gasoline, diesel and natural gas can all be transported in the same pipeline. In theory it can but there are some practical problems with natural gas because it needs to flow at a fairly continuous and smooth rate. That is difficult to do with liquids in the same pipeline with the natural gas.

With regard to gasoline and diesel, that is done by separating each product with a pipeline ';pig'; to minimize the contamination of each product with the other. Can a pipeline be designed to transport crude oil, products like petrol, diesel and gas all in one pipe? how?
that's how it's being done today as you read this.....

History Channel had a great episode on the pipeline..

lets say you pump a million gallons of gas then a million gallans of diesal... it will mix some in transport

so you take 900,000 gallons of gas then 200,000 gallons of Mixed fuel, and the other 900,000 will be diesal.

some powerplants and manufacturing plants can burn the mixed fuel so it doesn't get wasted.

Modern Marvels: Oil (look for this in upcoming episodes)

    Description of the show:

Petroleum was used by the ancients to waterproof Noah's Ark and fuel the lamps of the Temple of Jupiter. But it was in Pennsylvania in 1853 that the first oil well was dug, and an industry born. With the mass production of the car in the early 20th Century, demand for this black gold exploded. Technology in the service of oil has changed the world as we know it. Improved drill bits allow deeper subterranean deposits to be extracted, off-shore oil rigs and thousand-mile pipelines make deposits in remote areas accessible, and oil tankers the size of three football fields have made it commonplace for a car in New Zealand to run on petroleum taken from Africa's depths.

From the days of the dinosaur to a behind-the-scenes tour of a modern rig, this is the saga of the fuel that drives the world. Can a pipeline be designed to transport crude oil, products like petrol, diesel and gas all in one pipe? how?

Not only that, but why is there a surplus of oil in Iraq..just reported yesterday....and I might add that each Alaska residents receive a $1500. royalty from the oil each year..so that's like gas free....and with the oil companys reporting billions and billions in profits for decades and they say they can't build refinery's duhWhy is oil so hi when the Alaska pipeline was to be for us and only us, can anyone in Washington tell us why.?
The Alyeska Pipeline is not for us and only us. The main user of the pipeline is BP, a British corporation. All of these oil companies are still businesses with the main objective of making lots and lots of money. They owe absolutely nothing to the American citizens. Demand is at an all time high, and thats why they can get away with selling oil at $100 a barrel. Because we are willing to pay that much.
The supply in Alaska is hardly enough to meet America's energy needs. The oil comes from a variety of sources, including the U.S., Canada, Venezuela, the Middle East, etc. That's why oil prices here are different than the prices in other countries. Venezuela has enough for its own needs so citizens there pay practically nothing for gas.
We have oil we just can't refine it............

What is an Alaskan Pipeline? (not the oil caring type)?

i heard my friends talking about it from super bad or knocked up or something like thatWhat is an Alaskan Pipeline? (not the oil caring type)?
The Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS), usually called the Alyeska Pipeline in Alaska or the Alaska Pipeline elsewhere, is a major U.S. oil pipeline connecting oil fields in northern Alaska to a sea port where the oil can be shipped to the Lower 48 states for refining.

The main Trans-Alaska Pipeline runs north to south, almost 800 miles (1,300 km), from the Arctic Ocean at Prudhoe Bay, Alaska to the Gulf of Alaska at Valdez, Alaska, passing near several Alaskan towns, including Wiseman, Bettles, Livengood, Fox, Fairbanks, and Glennallen [see map].

Construction of the pipeline presented significant challenges due to the remoteness of the terrain and the harshness of the environment it had to pass through. Between Arctic Alaska and Valdez, there were three mountain ranges, active fault lines, miles of unstable, boggy ground underlain with frost, and migration paths of caribou and moose. Geological activity has damaged the pipeline on several occasions.~

    June 20th 1977

Where does the oil from the alaska pipeline go?

The pipeline itself goes to Valdez, then shipped from there. (Think Exxon Valdez) Unfortunately most of the oil is sold overseas and we BUY our oil from the Mid-East. Which is totally stupid, they are just making jobs for each other!Where does the oil from the alaska pipeline go?

What makes Sarah Palin think that the Alaskan Oil Pipeline was ';God's will'; ?

Does she have a special telephone line to God or something?

    ';I do my part in doing things like working really, really hard to get a natural gas pipeline; about a 30 billion dollar project that's going to create a lot of jobs for Alaskans because it will have a lot of energy flowing through here. And pray about that also. I think God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies, so pray for that. ';

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LS_VduCWhzMWhat makes Sarah Palin think that the Alaskan Oil Pipeline was ';God's will'; ?
I can see how you might have interpreted that part of her speech in that way, but when I heard it, that is not how I perceived it. All I heard was that she simply stated (paraphrased) that it was God's will to unify people and companies, and that the Pipeline was one way (among many) to do that.

While it is true (in deference to xaxorm) that politicians will say almost anything depending on who their audience is, does being a politician make it any less true? No.

What makes Sarah Palin think that the Alaskan Oil Pipeline was ';God's will'; ?
Politicians have to justify spending taxpayer money. Religious people say that everything THEY want is God's will. It's like saying the boss agrees with you. The rubes are more likely to go along.

Alberta - Fort McMurray Oil rig / pipeline work advice...?

I am 28 years old and heading out to Medicine Hat in a few weeks with the intention of looking for companies to work for in Northern Alberta.

I have heard many different opinions on work prospects and job availability in Fort McMurray, and would be grateful for any info or advice regarding my situation.

I have a high school diploma with only a few months of university, since then I have had factory jobs with Kodak (forklift, dockwork, production, etc) for 4 years, worked in office sales / order desk for lumber company for 1-1/2 years, and have been a contract installer of stadium/arena seating for 2 years. While experienced in several aspects of basic construction, I have no actual certificates of any kind beyond various forklifts / first aid / hazardous goods certificates required at most factories. I have my own truck and G2 Ontario license (full G in Sept.)

What advice do you have for me in finding decent paying work in ANY conditions (outdoors / heavy lifting) in Alberta?Alberta - Fort McMurray Oil rig / pipeline work advice...?
If you want to work on a drilling rig head to Nisku as this is where all the drilling contractors do their hireing out of. You might want to hurry as there is a. slight slowdown in the industry and ';break up'; hits at the end of march. I have been in the drilling end for 18 years and it is good if your in it for the long haul. Take care and good luckAlberta - Fort McMurray Oil rig / pipeline work advice...?
Good luck with finding work - finding at least a labourer job should be easy, but the biggest problem in Ft. McMurray is accommodation. It is terribly expensive, but worse that that, it seems to be non-existent.
    Head to this link.

    search for ';oil labourer';

I have been doing some research on Alberta also. I recently saw an oil labourer job post at $8000 per month in Fort McMurray. Most of these job will train you. There is also work in Grand Praire. I take it you are already in canada, u lucky. I'm down southeast America hoping to get to Alberta to get some cash also.Since you are willing to work hard, I'm sure u can find something at least $4000 monthly not counting overtime. My bro-in-law just got to alberta from the caribbean and got a ';do nothing, scratching job'; at walmart they pay $13/hour. You already have good qualification you'll just need H2S alive certificate.
Finding work should be quite easy, you have some good qualifications, but your drivers license part is not good, a d-z would be alot more attractive to potential employers, I hope every thing works out for you, but REMEMBER,places to stay are hard to find and very expensive, try to do some more research , eg, employment Canada , job applications on line, accommodations, go prepared, not walking in blind, hope you make it bro, good luck.......

Why isn't ethonal made from corn transported by pipeline like oil is?

From how many farms can a pipeline be built? Why isn't ethonal made from corn transported by pipeline like oil is?
they dont make the ethanol in the fields

but do you realize what this production stands for

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;鈥?/a>Why isn't ethonal made from corn transported by pipeline like oil is?
My understanding is that ethanol has strong detergent properties, so they could not easily reuse a petroleum/gasoline pipeline. Petroleum products tend to leave gummy deposits in pipelines which alcohol would dissolve, leaving you with a tainted product.

Of course, this doesn't mean that ethanol pipelines couldn't be built.
Ethenol is a pipe dream that will never survive in the market without government forcing the issue. Give me some gasoline or diesel any day. I can't fuel my motorhome with corn.
The corn used to make ethanol can be grown in any number of locations and doesn't require the same dispersal system as oil. Oil isn't available everywhere and in many cases is far more cost-effective to move by pipe.
Ethanol is not yet widely used, it is used in very minute quantities compared to petroleum. So building a pipeline network for ethanol is not yet economically sound, that is as of now.

When it becomes widely used and in huge demand, expect pipelines to be built to be able to cope up with the demand.
Greg is almost right. Ethanol is not as much corrosive as it is errosive. It damages the pipeline by gradually wearing it away just like you gradually wear away wood by rubbing it with sandpaper.
It's a ridiculous technology, it takes 3/4 ';gallon'; of fuel to make 1 ';gallon'; of ethanol, so says the government:

    http://www.mda.state.mn.us/renewable/ren鈥?/a>

That factors in ethanol's reduced fuel economy; they're saying you spend 100 joules of fuel to make 134 joules.

It takes a lot of corn to make a little ethanol, so it makes sense to make the ethanol near the corn. That means there's a lot of small ethanol plants scattered all over, and pipelines don't make sense. That's OK, that's what railroads are for.
Many people appear to be reading the question as ';Why can't ethanol be transported through existing oil pipelines?'; I believe this is a more appropriate answer to the question asked. Oil through a pipeline makes sense because of the volumes and concentrations of facilities. Most oil wells are located in small concentrated pockets like Prudhoe Bay Alaska. This makes it relatively easy to connect several wells with a small network of pipes. Other oil facilities like refineries, tank farms and import harbours are again concentrated. Your Ethanol facilities are usually spread out. Instead of several wells within a few miles of each other, you you might have 20+ miles between ethanol plants (as close to the equivalent of a well as is possible in this comparison).

Also there is the difference in volume of production. The Trans Alaskan Pipe Line carried an average of 32.837 MGD (Million Gallons/Day). A large ethanol plant produces 110-120 MGY (Million Gallons/Yr).

Another reason is the age of the industry. Ethanol as a large scale industry is very young. Ethanol has been used in the cornbelt for a couple of decades, but these are low population states for the most part. Only in the last 2-3 years has the industry truly grown (exploded). It takes a lot of time to construct a pipeline to transport fuels. I imagine it is simply a matter of time, but the industry will have to stay viable for a while to make the investment in piping networks worthwhile.

Even though this is not a part of the question, I'd like to aks those that claim ethanol uses more energy than it produces how much energy it takes to produce a gallon of Gasoline?
There's two big problems for ethanol pipelines.

One is that ethanol attracts water, whereas oil products shed water. This contaminates the fuel in the line.

The second is that it's corrosive and can damage piping.

Both of these are problems that can be fixed, but you can't easily use petrol pipelines. You'd have to retrofit, or build new for ethanol.
it goes bad, it's made from vegetables. and speaking of pipes, give up the pipe dream, there is no magic bullet. it takes more energy to make this crap than it can produce, and, the gas mileage goes down! you people will believe anything!

Canada and the Alaska pipeline are the largest supplier of oil to the lower 48, how come the price...?

of oil seems to be determined by sources other than these two?Canada and the Alaska pipeline are the largest supplier of oil to the lower 48, how come the price...?
It is not the State of Alaska or the country of Canada that set the price. It is the private companies (Conoco-Phillips, Exxon, Chevron, etc) that set the price. Their job is to get the highest price they can for their product. When foreign prices rise, they raise their prices.

Their price isn't constrained by their cost to produce plus some fixed % profit. Their price can go as high as people are willing to pay.

If you were selling an item on ebay, would you sell it to the highest bidder, or the closest one?

Conceivable, the USA could nationalize the oilfields as other countries have done (by ignoring the constitutional prohibition against seizing property without compensation). And then fix prices at a below-market rate. That seems very, very unlikely.Canada and the Alaska pipeline are the largest supplier of oil to the lower 48, how come the price...?
They may be the largest, but they cannot supply enough to meet all the needs by themselves.

Do you agree with that fundy Palin that it is ';God's Will'; to build an oil pipeline in Alaska?

and that the Iraq war is a ';task that is from God';?

    http://thelastreporter.wordpress.com/200…

    http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5jNulP…

    first link is video evidence of Palin saying the pipeline is ';God's Will';

    Is this how fundies and neocons justify their positions? ';Well it's God's Will, so if you don't agree with me you disagree with God, you heathen.';

    Palin wanted to ban books:

    http://mudflats.wordpress.com/2008/09/05…

Wants to dumb down public schools with creationism:

http://www.thelangreport.com/religion-or…Do you agree with that fundy Palin that it is ';God's Will'; to build an oil pipeline in Alaska?
Then I guess it was God's will that Bristol got pregnant as wellDo you agree with that fundy Palin that it is ';God's Will'; to build an oil pipeline in Alaska?
Oh geeezzzz she's a nut. What really needs to happen is finding another way to power cars, etc.

As for the idiot wanting to ban books she needs to go back to grade school and re learn the constitution. pffffttttt

Which parts come to mind right now, oh yeah freedom of speech and freedom of expression......
    I don't believe in 'god'.

I don't agree with banning books but plenty of leftists and liberals do.It isn't just conservatives.

It wouldn't be possible to dumb the schools down any more..theres already millions of sheep bleating for Obama. There isn't any lower to sink.
No I don't agree, I also don't agree with Pelosi when she said that Obama was sent by God. The VPcan have opinions, but it would be tough for her to implement them, since changes have to be approved by Congress.
She thinks that if she throws the word God people will think she's a good leader because she threw in the word god. good for undecided religious voters.
Of course not. Statements like this sound like a spokesman from the Taliban.
    She's a dangerous woman.
Yes. We need to drill our own oil.
The Associated Press and the Youtube video intentionally cut off the start of her sentence to quote her out of context.

    What Sarah Palin actually said:

    “Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending out on a task that is from God,” she exhorted the congregants. “That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God’s plan.';

    -----

Here’s what the AP turns it into:

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told ministry students at her former church that the United States sent troops to fight in the Iraq war on a “task that is from God.”…

“Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God,” she said. “That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God’s plan.”

    -------

See how her words are changed from humbly seeking what God really wants, to proudly stating what God's will actually is.

So do you want to continue spreading a half-truth, or do you want to add an update?
haha, love the guy a about. What a typical response. Translation: oh no! you disagree with my beliefs so I'm going to use some stigmatized name to call you associated with terrorists because that means i don't have to make a real point.

Not only is this childlike but it reeks of ignorance. How would that statement at all sound like something the taliban would say? Do you know anything about the taliban? Don't they do things because it's allah (aka god's) will? Which would make her statement the opposite of what the taliban would say.

This is what's wrong with the media machine and faux. We used to have conservatives that used actual logic to form opinions. I didn't agree with them but it was atleast honorable. Now we've got screaming lunatics that make a point by not actually making a point. Either they call you a communist, anti-american, or associate you with terrorism, although they can't back it up or make a logical point out of it, they think they're won via playground rules, it don't matter what you say just that you said it louder and meaner.

Why do we not hear about China looking for Tibets oil, Russian and Iran want the Trans Caspian Oil Pipeline?

ALL we hear about is Bush and Cheney are oil thieves. Al Gore set his Father up with a cushy oil job himself. Billary had millions in Exxon and other interests? Why is the media so slighted? What?! Did you know even Russia is running out of oil?

If I must I have numerous links. But I recommend reading foreign papers %26amp; compare notes. Sift thru, some are obviously slighted. Asia Times, China Daily, Persian Journal? Look around. Just curious what you think and feel about this. Thanks in advance. Aloha.

*note Google has alot about what I claim here. Try research :)Why do we not hear about China looking for Tibets oil, Russian and Iran want the Trans Caspian Oil Pipeline?
Actually, I did read a short piece about the Trans-Caspian pipeline. I found it interesting because this may be the real reason why Russia is sticking up for Iran. They want to get in on the oil reserves that are in the Caspian Sea. Iran is claiming that they have the rights to this oil. If this issue was really looked into and brought forth in the mainstream media.....well, you can guess what kind of garbage would get started. Why do we not hear about China looking for Tibets oil, Russian and Iran want the Trans Caspian Oil Pipeline?
Are you naive enough to believe the media in those countries is as free as the media in the USA???

Don't you know that in those countries, if the media dares to reports ';anything'; against their government, they will disappear???

Do you trust what the media in those countries say????

In what world have you been living so far not to know so???????????????
It does not fit the left agenda to bash the right and gain control just like China and Cuba drilling for oil off our shores and we are not thanks to the left. Also the dream act or night mare and the sea act all to sell the USA out along with amnesty and selling out to Turkey.
what do you expect from people who don't even know where to find texas on the US map.

  • Did you know Russia's invasion of Georgia was about seizing the Oil pipeline that feeds Western Europe?

Russia is going after oil, while Democrats and some Republicans acting like Democrats are standing in the way of us drilling for our own oil. Oil companies are not the enemy. We need our own oil to remain a super power, most of what we Americans make/consume is derived from oil based products. This is not the old USSR, but they are using force to try to build their new empire. Russia wants to set up a puppet Government in Georgia, one that the Russians would actually control. That's what this is all about. The Russian economy is not weak as in the days of the Soviet Union, and Russia wants to make it's economy stronger by controlling oil that flows to Western Europe. More than just kicking Russia out of the G8 is needed. Rhetoric is not enough. Will other nations of the world(not just the US) be aggressive enough to stand up against Russia over this? Also, write your Senators and State Representatives and tell them you will not re-elect them if they do not vote for large scale domestic oil drilling here at home. http://premium.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe鈥?/a>Did you know Russia's invasion of Georgia was about seizing the Oil pipeline that feeds Western Europe?
Look, the oil investors knew the risks going in -- that the region is a geopolitical hotbed. Russia is no fool, they were asked to invest in the oil pipeline and they agreed but then later backed out. I would too if all I had to do is take control of Georgia instead. Now why is that EU is hiding behind the skirt of the US?Did you know Russia's invasion of Georgia was about seizing the Oil pipeline that feeds Western Europe?
The pipeline is not in the disputed territory. The Russians and Georgians have both signed a cease-fire and the Russians say they will withdraw the troops from Georgia proper on Monday.

So much for your theory about gremlins from the Kremlin.
yes....i told ya the day it happened.the pipeline feeds europe.russia has been using natural gas and heating oil for ransom against former soviet satilites.now you understand why they keep taking sides on iran and did on iraq.russia has more energy reserves than saudi arabia.
There are two basic facts to keep in mind about the war in Ossetia:

    1. The Georgians started it.

    2. They lost.

It's funny that Georgia invaded with US %26amp; Co Iraq and now wants help because she is attacked. Karma is a b*tch.
I agree. I think we'll hear more about this pipeline in the coming months regardless of whether Russia withdraws or not. Also, they probably weren't too upset to have an opportunity to intimidate other former Soviet states.
That would be rather pointless as the pipe line that runs through Georgia is owned by Russia
tell the liberal democrats that...they're the one that turn off the light, ';pelosi'; hint hint, on the subject. They want to save the world, instead of the american peoples suffering at the pump trying to make ends meat, while they, lol, irony, fly private jet plane to promote an end to global warming and play nice with the terroristic states like iran and cuba that wants to destroy us. As far as the whole Georgia situation, Obama suggest that we let UN handle the situation, that shows what an idiot he is. Since when did the UN solve anything, hope no one forget the massacre in Darfur. Did UN do anything? NOPE!! This country need a firm no nonsense government, a government that is more interested in serving the people of America instead of all the other countries that don't give a rat's @$$ about us. GOD BLESS AMERICA and I've always been proud of my country!!!
The finite resource of petroleum is not the answer to long term national energy security. The Oil Execs know it. For a real solution we need to perfect containment of spent fuel rods from Nuclear power plants and go to an electric powered economy.

The Nuclear Power Plants will of course need oversight. Accountants and high-level execs love to marginalize routine safety and maintenance issues in the quarterly budget. For proof of that look to the accidents at Texas Oil refineries bought up by British Petroleum. Control spent fuel rods should fall under high level military security in return for licenses to build these plants. No foreign contracters for this high level security work either.

Why hasn't this happened before? Big Oil wants us to stay addicted. Where are the geo metros of the 90's? They were too effecient, gone. The climate of war and fear keeps consumers in an agitated state susceptible to comforting commercials of happy families in oversize SUVs.

The ridiculous profits made by Oil Companies while my fellow rank and file Americans are in harms way in Iraq is PROFITEERING. War Profiteering is Treason.

The politics of Us vs them is the disease that greed thrives on. Is it the cause or the symptom of unmitigated greed? I don't know or care. I just want a better answer than continued oil-spills and airpollution. Liberals and Neo-cons need to get outside their little bubbles and find the win-win that will make it possible for the human race to continue to exist.

Nuclear power must be re-examined by critical thinkers. Without it we would not have a modern Navy. Technology is going to continue to require more energy and increase pollution from coal or gas powered power plants if we don't find a better source.

I will not list the plethora of negatives to off-shore drilling, the point is moot. The horse is dead, I reserve my mental energy for arguing a viable point.

Well of course it's over the pipe-line. They waited until the world's focus would be on the Olympics. They waited until George Bush's name was so destroyed in the rest of the world that it would hold no import. Who cares what ol Georgey says. We're indebted to the Chinese so we don't have a leg to stand on and Russia is in bed with the Chinese so they can build together the next super power. And they might just do it handily.

What makes Sarah Palin think that the Alaskan Oil Pipeline was ';God's will'; ?

Does she have a special telephone line to God or something?

    ';I do my part in doing things like working really, really hard to get a natural gas pipeline; about a 30 billion dollar project that's going to create a lot of jobs for Alaskans because it will have a lot of energy flowing through here. And pray about that also. I think God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies, so pray for that. ';

What makes Sarah Palin think that the Alaskan Oil Pipeline was ';God's will'; ?
she is flat out crazy, that's it nothing more nothing less, crazy i tell you!!What makes Sarah Palin think that the Alaskan Oil Pipeline was ';God's will'; ?
Clue: If the religious right wants something for their own selfish purpose, then they call it god's will. Doesn't much matter what it is. War, big money bailouts, environmental catastrophe, the subjugation of the poor, or just a little hanky panky in the men's room. Could be anything. Flavor of the week happens to be bj's for big oil, next week it will be something else that god supposedly wants.
    If something is truely of God, it is usually a free gift, not something that a human ';works really, really hard at.';

At least she says it is God's will and not the Holy Spirit's. Blasphemy of the Holy Spirit is the only ';unpardonable sin.'; She would go to hell for all eternity for that one.

Corporations and Companies in my mind are rife with corruption, so why would people want to be unified with that? Work for your employer, don't marry it.

And she asks us to pray for that?
She's a religious fanatic so far to the right in a world of her own.
    She's bonkers. Mystery solved.

I think TEH THME KITTEH was kidding.
She also thinks that sending the military to war is God's will. There is something wrong with her.
She would like every one to believe that her will is Gods will. She uses her god as a crutch, an excuse. It's sad really.
    she is this

she's got issues. ALOT of issues ;)
    she is nuts!
What on earth are you talking about? Apparently the english language is rather difficult for you. What she said has nothing to do with how you interpreted it.

80% approval rating among her constituents. You libs all hate her because she's not an angry, pro-abortionist, atheist woman.
Have you not prayed and gotten confirmation from God? We all have a direct line to God.

Don't be so quick to judge what you don't know about.
She doesnt, and stop spreading liberal propoganda commie filth.
Because it's a blessing, and worth praising and thanking God for his goodness.
Thank you for your Palin endorsement.

There's full blown war in Georgia, major oil pipeline right in the middle, and oil price goes down?

There is a major oil pipeline running right smack through Georgia (Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline) and there seems to be a full blown war in Georgia.

Yet, today the price of a barrel of oil actually fell 75 cents to about $115 a barrel from a high of almost $150 a barrel just a month ago.

Just a month or two ago, it seemed that a cab driver anywhere in the middle east could fart and the price of a barrel of oil would jump up two bucks.

I smell a rat. What gives? There's full blown war in Georgia, major oil pipeline right in the middle, and oil price goes down?
Something is rotten in Denmark. This is the kind of news that only two moths ago would have shot prices up overnight twenty bucks a barrel for openers. It's election time and the people who control the oil are mostly republicans, and now is not a good time for Senator McCain and the GOP to have oil prices rising. This whole oil thing reminds me very much of the early seventies, another man-made oil crisis that most of the world is suffering from while a select few are making obscene amounts of money. It's nothing but a giant scam played on the people of the world by the few. There's full blown war in Georgia, major oil pipeline right in the middle, and oil price goes down?
Shows you how ridiculously inflated the price of oil was. Also, I believe investors are worried that Congress will allow offshore drilling and that if investors keep the prices too high for too long then people really will work even harder to not drive, find other energy sources, and get more oil. Also there is less demand from consumers since the prices have been so high.
I heard a lot of investors (people who buy oil commodities strictly as a financial vehicle, not to actual do anything with the oil itself) originally bought oil as a hedge against a weak dollar, and a lot of them are dumping their oil contracts now, fearing that the speculative bubble is ready to burst - hence the drop in price.

The astronomical rise in price was completely disproportionate to supply and demand, so the corresponding fall, not surprisingly, is also unrelated.
Well, first of all, we don't import a great deal of oil from Georgia, in fact http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/dnav/pet/hist/m鈥?/a> shows only 1,100 barrels. As for a rat, yes and he is munching on government cheese in our own white house.
The price of oil is dependant on one thing: The level of greed among the powerful players in the oil industry. This is just another blemish on the Bush administration for allowing it to happen.
Oil down when oil should be up tells us the bad guys are keeping the price of oil down because they do not people to realize Georgia is about stealing the Caspian Sea oil.
People using less and doing without are driving the price down faster than possible non production from that pipeline driving them up.
Lets see what the oil price is in two weeks.

Who is building the Oil pipeline that runs through Afghanistan?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afghanistan鈥?/a>

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans-Afgha鈥?/a>Who is building the Oil pipeline that runs through Afghanistan?
Unical was the first ';post-Taliban'; company to sign any oil contract with Afghanistan. The contract gave them sole rights basically to any oil that comes from Afghanistan or passes through Afghanistan.

The merger of Conoco, Phillips, and Unical forced Afghanistan to retool their contract with Unical, since it no longer existed. In light of the fact that Unical's operations in Afghanistan presented them with a net loss in revenue in FY 2002, 2003, and 2004, no US company was openly interested in pursuing a new contract with Afghanistan.

This presented a unique problem for the Bush administration. They had promised the political leaders of the new Afghan government that US companies would be very interested in doing business with them. Now that this was no longer true, the Bush administration had to get creative.

Their plan was to place the responsibility on the Department of Defense. Considering the threat of sabotage to oil operations in Afghanistan, this wasn't an unreasonable proposition. The DOD was well funded and had several contractors that would salivate at the prospect.

Thus began the bidding process for oil contracts in Afghanistan. The plan worked well, the oil companies jumped right back on board. Since they were paid contracts, US oil companies were free to enter the Afghan oil market without the threat of a loss of revenue.

Which brings us to today. Several US oil companies work directly with the Afghan government. Since the current contracts are official Afghan state business, this information is not made public. This is to alleviate the threat that Afghan extremists may pose to US oil company employees. This information is only available to a select number of shareholders in these companies.

To our possible detriment, many of these shareholders are Saudi's. In some cases, even the Saudi royal family themselves.

  • Is an oil pipeline a Simplex system, a half duplex system, a full duplex system or none of the above?

    Q. 1: Bandwidth is formally defined to be the length of the frequency spectrum. What are some of the other definitions of Bandwidth, which are in common use?

    Q. 2: Radio Antennas often work best when the diameter of the antenna is equal to the wavelength of the radio wave. Reasonable antennas range from 1 cm to 5 meters in diameter. What frequency range does this cover? (Hint: c = f 脳 位)

    Q. 3: Is an oil pipeline a Simplex system, a half duplex system, a full duplex system or none of the above? Is an oil pipeline a Simplex system, a half duplex system, a full duplex system or none of the above?
    A1. http://www.google.com/search?q=define%3A鈥?/a>

A3. The oil pipeline is a Simplex system because oil flows only in one direction, from point A to point B.

    A3.the range is between 60MHz to 300MHz

    f = c/位 = (3x 10^8 m/s )/ 1 m = 300 x 10^6 Hz = 300MHz

    f = c/位 = (3x10^8 m/s)/5m = 60 x 10^6 Hz = 60MHzIs an oil pipeline a Simplex system, a half duplex system, a full duplex system or none of the above?
An oil pipeline has oil flowing in only one direction. A simplex system is a TX/RX coupled together. So, an oil pipeline would be a half-simplex system. Duplex is 2 simplex connections coupled together.

Does dimethyl sulphide cause internal corrosion of oil & gas pipeline?

Some bacteria can make SH2 from it , so it is possible that it can cause internal corrosion of metal pipelines, yes.Does dimethyl sulphide cause internal corrosion of oil %26amp; gas pipeline?
It should not. It is an organic compound and most organic compounds are non-corrosive.Does dimethyl sulphide cause internal corrosion of oil %26amp; gas pipeline?
Sulfur containing compounds can become converted to H2S, which causes much corrosion in steel pipes. But dimethyl sulfide by itself.... probably not.

Why was the alaskan pipeline necessary? why couldnt they transport the oil in other ways?

Most oil is transported by ship because of the vast volume. Ships don't transport well on ice.Why was the alaskan pipeline necessary? why couldnt they transport the oil in other ways?
    a) Energy demands from society. Security of supply.

    b) Transportation costs per barrel - cheaper than other available means.

Q: Why was the Iraq oil pipeline necessary? (Kazakhstan, through Afghanistan to the Pakistan border at Malta.)Why was the alaskan pipeline necessary? why couldnt they transport the oil in other ways?
because the water is frozen most of the time
The pipeline is the most efficient way.
It's the cheapest way to do it.

That's usually the case when you see a big company doing something and you know they could do it another way. They're pretty smart about money.
I think it is the cheapest solution. There is only ONE road that goes there...and it is not much of a road, not drivable in the winter months. They would have to build more roads or a railroad track (that also would not be usable in the winter), or fly it out which would cost a lot, and there would be weight limits to how much a plane could carry. They could ship it in the summer, but once again not in the winter. The pipeline was the only way to have the oil be sent out all year round.
Now we have the internet, there is no excuse for you not doing your own homeworks.
The pipeline is the most environmentally friendly, and also cheapest, way to transport the oil. Just think, if the pipe could have been extended all the way to the lower 48 states, the Exxon Valdez spill would have been avoided.
    What's wrong with it?

The pipeline corridor has been *VERY* beneficial to Alaskan wildlife. How do I know? I live here! The caribou and moose LOVE the pipeline corrider, especially where the line is buried. Due to the heat of the oil running through the line, the snow on top doesn't get very deep in comparison to the land around it.

It's not at all unusual to see bears, herds of caribou, moose, fox, wolves, etc near the pipeline - doesn't bother them one bit.
    Like: how?

I mean, what other way? Trucks? Trains?

Just do some computation and you will see that you'd need more area covered with tracks or roads than with a pipeline.

Which does not mean that this specific oil was totally indispensable, that is another debate.
I think in the economic point of view pipeline is much safest %26amp;cheapest way to transport the oil from Alaska. Since most of the time the area is covered with ice not to mention the danger it would cause in transporting oil by other means.

Your thoughts on the ALMOST attack on NY on oil pipeline in JFK airport...?

that goes through BROOKLYN NY, Queens NY, and New JERSEY. your thoughts? if the attack was carried out what do you think would happen to our economy and how bad would that damage NYer's lives? do you think it would make 9/11 look like a small job compared to what could have happend if the terrorists werern't caught?Your thoughts on the ALMOST attack on NY on oil pipeline in JFK airport...?
The theory that the explosion would have ignited the whole pipeline would have not worked in probability.

All things being equal, I'm glad that is as close as they got to testing their theory.

I think this is a excellent display of why we need the Patriot Act to continue.

It would not have been as tragic as 9/11, but any terrorist attack on U.S. soil since 9/11 should be taken as an extremely grave act.

I do not know for sure. The war was and is still wrong. No matter how you look at it we went there under false pretenses.
There are thousands of rebuilding projects going on in Iran. The Army Corps of Engineers has repaired or established new water purification facilities in over 250 communities.

Roads, airfields, utilities including electricity are going in daily.

The reference you are quoting for ';no bid'; contracts is a lie. If you want to participate in these bids, you can't wait until a war comes along and then jump on the ';Gravy Train';. Contractors submit standing bids in advance and have them on file for when something happens.

    You're welcome to participate.

You have to post bond for your performance and it isn't the State Department's affair if you get shot at.

Haliburtion is taking in a lot of money, but at the same time, they're spending a lot in personnel and building supplies.

There is a veiled reference in your question that smacks of accusation. If there were TRULY anything wrong going on, you would see Senators Kennedy and Clinton screaming for an investigation. Hear that?. . . . . . . . . .That's a thundering silence from them because there is nothing illegal or immoral going on.

Be thankful that there is someone that has prepared for this and is capable of doing it across the world, under fire, at a moments notice. (Unlike someone I could name that sits on their fat rump and makes unfounded accusations from the safety of Yahoo Answers.)

    Thank you for your time.

ABuilding a pipeline above ground to transport Canada's oil and mineral resources?
None of the above. When the Alaskan Pipeline was being constructed, the antipeople spouted the same arguements. Upon completion of the pipeline, none of those things occurred. While I believe in conservation, I don't believe in crying ';chicken little'; without getting all the facts.

Should Dems be Ashamed of Making Big Oil in US & UK Rich by Building the Alaskan Pipeline?

Aren't oil corporations bad for America according to Dems?

Why did the Dems and their Dem-controlled Congress enrich Big Oil by approving the Alaskan pipeline back in the 1970s?Should Dems be Ashamed of Making Big Oil in US %26amp; UK Rich by Building the Alaskan Pipeline?
Yes, the Dems should be ashamed of themselves. For lots of things.Should Dems be Ashamed of Making Big Oil in US %26amp; UK Rich by Building the Alaskan Pipeline?
That is a undeniable fact. That is the danger for voters as the elect presidents, senators, representatives an governors who can easily be tempted by powerful special interests.

Look no further to understand how our political system works. Follow the money. Ignore it at your own peril. Ignore their words and follow the money!
Yeah, that's clearly what's causing expensive fuel prices NOW.
    Yes they should.

    You should castigate them.
