How is the instability in Nigeria related to its oil wealth and corruption within its government?

Only the corrupt government and the oil producers of nigeria are profiting, correct? What does that have to do with the instability?

Also, do you have any sites that can give me more infor on this topic? How is the instability in Nigeria related to its oil wealth and corruption within its government?
It's a very common story in Africa and the mid east. It's about sacrificing long term prosperity for short term gains. Enriching the few at the expense of the many. Lets take Iraq for example (early Hussein years). You would think with such an abundant natural resource it would be a wealth country correct? But it is not. Because instead of the Iraqi government mining it's oil through Iraqi companies, selling it on the global market place, and using the revenue to invest in infrastructure, education, and social services, Hussein chose to, or was ordered to contract the mining of their oil to American companies. They buy the rights to the land and the oil at a fraction of what the all the oil is actually worth. They employ Iraqis but pay them slave wages. And instead of returning the income to the community from which it came, the profits are shipped back to US, meaning we everyday Americans enjoy the oil and our companies enjoy the profits. And what does Iraq get? Well Hussein gets to keep the money he made from auctioning off his oil fields, and since he's the only one in the country making money off the resources, he gets to remain his power. Short term goals are satisfied.

Similar kinds of thing have been going on in Africa for decades. In nigeria's case it's more than just oil but gemstones, rubber, and precious metals. All of which are owned by American companies so the true value of those resources are never utilized by the country from which it came. Corrupt governments make deals with foreign industries, taking a lump sum of cash in exchange for the long term wealth underneath the ground.

Sorry I don't know of any websites but you can search for articles on neo-imperialism in Africa and the mid east. It should helpHow is the instability in Nigeria related to its oil wealth and corruption within its government?
